Dedicated Brain Injury Attorneys Advocating for Victims

Tragic incidents like motor vehicle collisions, slip and falls, and other unexpected events often result in traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). The brain, controlling all bodily functions, remains one of the least understood organs in medical science. Brain injuries are notoriously complex; while some heal with time, others lead to lasting or irreversible impairments that significantly diminish the victim’s quality of life, affecting even the simplest daily tasks.

At our firm, we understand that even a so-called “mild” brain injury can carry lifelong repercussions. Victims may face challenges with memory, concentration, balance, or other vital functions that are essential for maintaining employment and enjoying life.

When someone’s negligence causes a brain injury, the responsible party should be held accountable for the harm they’ve inflicted. Our team of skilled personal injury attorneys is committed to seeking justice and fair compensation for brain injury victims. With years of experience handling these complex cases, we’re dedicated to delivering the best possible outcomes for our clients and their families.

What is a Traumatic Brain Injury?

Traumatic brain injuries result from external forces, such as accidents, rather than internal conditions like disease. Both traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries fall under the category of “acquired” injuries since they occur after birth. However, TBIs specifically involve damage from sudden impacts, falls, or penetrating injuries.

According to medical experts, TBIs disrupt the brain’s normal structure or activity, often impairing function. While some individuals recover quickly, others experience long-term physical and psychological challenges that can severely impact their ability to lead a normal life.

Types of Traumatic Brain Injuries

Penetrating TBIs

These occur when objects like shrapnel or bone fragments pierce the skull, damaging localized areas of the brain. Although these injuries often involve severe trauma, their effects are typically confined to specific brain regions.

Non-Penetrating TBIs

Also known as closed head injuries, these TBIs result from external forces causing the brain to collide with the skull. Common causes include car accidents, falls, and blunt force trauma. Even without visible external damage, non-penetrating TBIs can cause significant harm.

Common Traumatic Brain Injuries

Concussions

A concussion is caused by rapid head movement that affects the brain’s structural integrity. Symptoms range from confusion to loss of consciousness. Repeated concussions can lead to long-term cognitive and psychological issues.

Hematomas

Extra-axial hematomas, which include epidural and subdural hematomas, involve bleeding within the skull. These injuries increase intracranial pressure and can cause severe impairment or death without prompt treatment.

Contusions

Brain bruising, or contusions, occurs when the brain strikes the skull. “Coup” contusions occur at the impact site, while “contrecoup” contusions develop on the opposite side of the impact.

Subarachnoid Hemorrhages

These involve bleeding into the brain’s subarachnoid space, increasing pressure and often leading to severe disabilities or death.

Diffuse Axonal Injuries

Shearing or twisting forces can damage nerve fibers in the brain, leading to widespread neuronal injury. These injuries frequently occur alongside other TBIs and can have devastating consequences.

Causes of Traumatic Brain Injuries

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies falls, motor vehicle accidents, assaults, and firearm-related injuries as the most common causes of TBIs. In many cases, these injuries are preventable and occur due to someone’s negligence or recklessness.

How We Help Brain Injury Victims

Our attorneys focus on two critical aspects after a brain injury: ensuring access to quality medical care and securing financial compensation to address current and future needs.
